Mohammed Ghaus with is familly. .For 10 years, Mohammed Ghaus, 44, was the official driver of Ahmed Shah Massoud, Afghanistans legendary Northern Alliance military leader, assassinated in September. In this interview, made weeks before Massouds death, Ghaus gives an eyewitness account of recent Afghan history under Massouds leadership. Ghaus has been at the steering wheel of three of Massouds most dramatic military moments. It was Ghaus who drove Massoud, the Lion of the Panjshir, victorious into Kabul in 1992 and it was Ghaus who drove Massoud, then President Rabbanis Defence Minister, fleeing from the Taliban out of Kabul in 1996. In September, Ghaus undertook one of the Northern Alliances saddest journeys, the last; - he drove the wounded body of Ahmed Shah Massoud from Kwojo Bahauddin to the helipad, before the Northern Alliance leader was declared officially dead.
